Value: 40 Crore | As part of its traffic improvement plan, Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has decided to paint zebra crossings on all major roads, junctions and speed breakers and erect road signs and cat’s eye near them in city
Civic body officials said that the project had been taken up under Smart City initiative and a total amount of Rs 40 crore would be spent on it
A private agency will be hired to take up this project. The project will include improvement of existing road safety signs and installation of reflectors wherever needed. The project has been proposed to be completed within a year,” Indore Smart City Development Limited senior official Anup Goyal said
The official said that this development was result of a meeting between top brass of IMC and city traffic police last month. Both IMC and traffic police had agreed to jointly work on solving traffic related issues in the city
The civic body will construct speed breakers in places suggested by traffic police, remove or convert impractical speed breakers, paint them with zebra crossing if required and fix cat’s eye. The traffic police, in the meantime, will enforce traffic rules and road safety norms by increasing deployment
Speed breakers at inappropriate locations and those without proper signs and cat eyes pose major problem to commuters,” a traffic police official said
He said that most accidents, especially those reported during late in nigh, happened because of speed breakers without white stripes and cat’s eye
